Formerly known as Home Computer Training for Disabled People.
The group became a registered charity in March 1990. It’s aims are to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.
We aim to provide a computer and printer on loan for a small annual fee, to a disabled person.
We will also provide volunteer instructors to those who need support. This can take place in the trainees home or at the Tech4D room in the Pinehurst People Centre, Swindon.
E-mail, First on Line courses funded by UK Online Ufi South West.
There is a waiting list for people who would like to have a computer and the charity is doing it’s best to meet everyone’s needs.
A committee runs the charity consisting of able-bodied and disabled people, with the help of a dedicated band of volunteers who understand the needs of disabled and disadvantaged people.
The charity relies on donated equipment from organisations and individuals and upgrades it, so it is suitable for E-mail and home shopping, therefore helping our clients to become more independent.
Every system we send out has to have a licence and this costs the charity, so we have to raise money for this and other costs by doing boot sales, social evenings and form filling to apply for Grants.
Projects are an important part of our fundraising to improve our facilities but core funding is vital so that the charity can pay the rental on our classroom/workshop at Pinehurst Peoples Centre. Without the facility we would not be able to continue to do the work, to upgrade systems for our clients and to develop our training programme.
Equipment is currently on loan to over one hundred Clients in and around the area, and is maintained, repaired and upgraded as necessary, by our Volunteers.
This charity is run on a shoestring and we rely on good Volunteers to come along to help us.
Can you help with our fund-raising? We always need funds to keep us going.
Are you updating your old computer?
If so, would you consider donating your old one to us so that we can loan it to a disabled person.
